I have been travelling to Bonito Lake in southern New Mexico for the past thirty years and since I now live about only ten miles away, I explore the nooks and crannies of this area quite frequently, especially in the non-tourist season. This charming house still catches my eye. I used to think it would be wonderful to live in a place where you had to across a bridge that spanned an erratic stream to go home. I guess it reminded of a small castle with a moat. I’m a little more realistic now that I realize how quickly you can get snowbound in this area, and that streams and rivers can rise to flood your home. But all of that is quickly forgotten when I stop to photograph this little scene and am transported to days of romance and childhood fantasies.
A little bit of whimsy, fantasy and romance. . .. how dull life could be without it.
